Hi! I'm Dr. Kathryn Ahuja

If you are reading this it means you are considering making some big changes in your life. You might feel uncertain that this could actually work. You’re skeptical. I get it. We might just be spending a lot of time together, so you want to know more about me.

I grew up in a family of physical therapists. Both my parents have been in the field for almost 40 years so anatomy, exercises, and biology were literal dinner-time conversation.

As a young adult, I chose to pursue performing and received my BFA at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. To help pay the bills once I graduated, I became a yoga teacher and taught at some of the busiest studios in the country. I also worked as a teacher of teachers and have trained more than 1,000 yoga teachers in the craft of hands-on adjustments and anatomy for yoga.

Yoga sparked in me a desire to learn more about healing the body through breath and movement. I attended New York Medical College graduating with my Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2017. Since commencement, I chose to focus my practice in the underserved field of pelvic health.  Through the Herman and Wallace Institute I earned the Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification (PRPC) in 2020. This is a certification held by only a handful of therapists and denotes excellence in the field of pelvic floor rehabilitation.

As a performer, turned yoga teacher, turned physical therapist, turned coach I bring a lot of plates to the table and they all flavor how I work.

From the first days of PT school, I realized that I thought differently than my peers. As we learned about arthritis, strokes, and orthopedic surgeries I kept asking questions about the people behind the diagnoses. I was curious how the patient felt about their condition. How did it effect their family? Their romantic relationship? How might rehab be informed by their financial situation? What if they had no family or significant relationships?

As a clinician, I learned that these questions from school were some of the most important when it came to working with actual clients. The people in front of me were more than medical conditions; they were individuals with unique personalities, complicating factors, lifestyles, and dreams. I found that the stuff I learned in PT school- muscle stuff, joint stuff, skin stuff- it was good stuff but it was only a small piece of the puzzle.

Treating “by the book” didn’t work the 99% of my patients.

So I threw the book away…and got some new ones…

My approach is to look at every client from a biopsychosocial perspective. That means addressing the biological, psychological and social factors that influence how you feel. There is a ton of evidence to support this method, but unfortunately most of the Western medical world has been slow to adapt (for sooooo many reasons- but that’s another story).

So if you are tired of being chopped up into body parts and diagnoses…

If you want to get to the underlying reasons WHY your muscles get “tight”…

If you are ready to have a coach who “gets you” but also has the knowledge to  get you through it…

Then I am here for YOU.

Whatever you are going through right now, whatever made you click this page. I want you to know that you don’t have to do this alone.
